What is a Domain Name?

A domain name in its simplest form is just an Internet Website address. Just as your house or apartment has its own unique identifying address for the post office, so does each and every Website in existence.

The domain name system was originally created for the benefit of humans. The actual address used by computers is numerical in format and is referred to as an IP, or Internet Protocol, address. An IP address takes the form of four series of numbers separated by periods. An example of an IP address is 215.55.258.145, and as you can see this would not be easy for most of us to remember.

Why do I need a domain name?

What is DNS and Name Servers?

DNS is short form for Domain Name System. When you register a domain, it must point to atleast two (2) name servers.

These name servers are DNS servers that are provided to you by your hosting company. When you register a domain, by default, it points to our nameservers.

Without a DNS service, the domain is practically useless. DNS servers power the whole internet - as you know it - and is used to publish various records such as A, MX, CNAME, TXT and more.

If you don't have a DNS server, you can activate it with us for only TZS 25,000 per year. You will get access to easy to use DNS manager in your client area.
